The Frontier Economy
Game Coinage:
To give everyone a common starting reference point for life on the Anglo-Scottish border, here is a quick look at the local wartime economy:
The Cost of Living: A pint of ale at a Marygate tavern costs a half-penny (½d); a cheap bowl of pottage and bread costs 6 pence (6d)
Lower Class (Garrison Foot Soldiers, Sailors, Laborers): Earn roughly 6d to 10d per day.
Middle Class (Master Craftsmen, Smugglers, Merchants): Earn 1s to 2s per day (Note: 1 shilling = 12 pence).
The Gentry & Crown Officials (The Town Governor, Border Wardens): Command estates and budgets worth £50 to £2,000+ per year
Your Pocket Change:
Coinage will be provided in your game packets for you to play with! Feel free to negotiate prices, or trade in cross-border secrets, political favors, and tasks. Since you are all arriving expecting a free meal tonight, you only have "pocket change" on your person. Sorry to the high-and-mighty Crown officials, you don't have access to the Governor's secure vaults or your family estates tonight. No diving into gold piles, even if that's what we all really want to do!
