Something unexpected listens in the corner. Everyone has arrived for their own reasons, some friends, others strangers and a few just trying to grab a free meal. Many do not know the true purpose of tonight and fewer still know what will happen before the final dawn.
Memento Mori to all you souls, be you human, spirit or the creatures of legend.
ABOUT OUR PARTY
-
The Life of the Party turns allegory into a playable reality. This game is heavily influenced by classical philosophy to explore the depths of human grief, love, personal growth and what it means to just be alive.
It follows the soul's journey and the first question it asks is what you would do or say if you were given just one more day with someone who is gone. In this story, you just might be playing one of the ghosts who have returned to ask it. It is about confronting the ghosts of the loved, the hated, and the heartbreaking could-have-beens.
This game will ask you to discover what you are willing to do for those you love. In the end, you will be left to decide how you will answer when the final hour strikes.

While we draw inspiration from the rich history, culture, and politics of the Elizabethan era, this story is not intended to be 100% historically accurate. Historical accuracy takes a backseat to shared fun and safe gameplay. Focus on the story and the community rather than perfect historical accuracy!

The Life of the Party is engineered as a four-act story that utilizes a deliberate, high-contrast shift in environment, tone, and mechanics. Act I is the gritty, realistic economics and espionage of a 1567 border town. While your character and even you are entering the tavern with one set of expectations, when the tide rolls in, be prepared to be washed out.
The vast majority of characters will be seeing for the first time a world they never knew existed. Those waves just keep crashing across the whole weekend—by Act II a major event will occur and the standard rules of reality will be completely rewritten. We advise all participants to arrive fully prepared for multiple high-impact atmospheric shifts. By Act IV, the tide will finally go out, leaving a quiet dawn for final farewells. Don't mind the horse the Trojan's left at the door; invite him in to play.
What This Means for the Participant:
Embrace the Small Start: Do not arrive trying to be a hero in the first hour. Trust the fog and the confusion. Enjoy playing a character finally being able to take a breath for the first time or a King who has suddenly watched his whole world crumble under his feet.
Expect Mechanical Changes: Character progression is fluid. Through gameplay triggers or sealed envelope drops, your character type, your social status, and your very authority over the room may violently rewrite themselves.
-
What You See Is What You Get (WYSIWYG): The vast majority of gameplay operates on this principle. There are no abstract numbers or invisible props. If you want to do an action you are physically executing that theater.
Cinematic Intermissions (Act Transitions): The world is a fragile thing. When an Act Transition triggers, you will be herded into the Main Hall via in-character weather advisory cues ("I sense the weather changing, friend..."). During this specific intermission, a live script will be read aloud to establish global, major shifts. While you listen and react as a collective group, this window serves as our screen. Allowing our staff to physically transform the outdoor forest and setting in secrecy. Gameplay resumes the moment the script finishes, but you may find yourselves temporarily locked inside the tavern while your hosts make sure you are truly ready to face the new world (giving our outdoor crew an extra few minutes to vanish into the shadows). When the doors finally unlock and fly open, the physical environment will have rewritten itself while you were looking away.
The Gate Threshold: The Gate is a deeply sacred, spiritual realm that operates completely outside the local narrative. Stepping through this door initiates an intense, high-stakes encounter (either one-on-one or many-on-one) with a staff NPC. This transition begins with a script read aloud, paired with physical effects and atmospheric lighting. Following the reading, you will enter an intimate, fluid role play moment where your choices are laid out before you on cards made of parchment.
Enveloped Deliveries: Throughout the weekend unlocking secrets, memories, awakening abilities and item research results will be delivered directly to you via sealed envelopes. When you receive a delivery, read the text privately as soon as you have a quiet moment, immediately bring those new realities into your role play, and update your traits or tool kits as instructed.
The Dual Lyst (Choreographed or Competitive): In keeping with our WYSIWYG philosophy, combat is executed in real time. Combat begins with a pre-negotiation phase where players choose how their conflict resolves. You may enter a Scripted Fight, cooperatively mapping out narrative milestones and choreography ahead of time, or choose a Competitive Fight where HEMA/SCA-style fencing skill entirely dictates the win/loss condition. There are no abstract numbers or health points. Competitive fights are self-called, closely monitored by Marshals. No matter the framework chosen, participation is entirely optional, and you always retain narrative agency over how a defeat impacts your character's story.
Casting and Characters: To ensure the complex web of espionage and heart break connect seamlessly, all roles in this game are pre-built by our narrative team. Through our casting process, we will match your personal play style, boundaries and preferences to a character built into the heartbeat of this world.

Whether you are arriving with a rapier or a notebook bursting with character secrets, this event belongs to you. To ensure everyone shares a beautiful, immersive weekend under the roof of The Siren’s Wail, we ask all participants to align with the core intentions that drive our game.
The Story is the Ultimate Gravity Well
We have built a premium combat system, but you should not expect a weekend of constant combat. Our 1567 border town and the creeping weight of cosmic horror are designed to pull you deep into the narrative. You are far more likely to spend your hours trading secrets or deciphering hidden memories than standing on a lyst field.
Combat is an Available Reality, Not an Obligation
The lyst and our mixed martial mechanics exist purely as a choice. If you want full speed fighting: The system is entirely there for you. Gather your peers, grab a marshal and fight your heart out.
If you want pure storytelling: You will never be forcefully dragged into an unconsented physical match. Violence in is a deliberate, heavy storytelling tool, never a mindless reflex.
Play for Drama, Not to "Win"
There are no tournament brackets, no damage math, and no point systems. We are here to explore the fragility and beauty of our characters.
Self-Compel Your Troubles: Lean heavily into your character’s personal flaws. Use adversity as a narrative reason to deliberately take losses, creating a much richer, tragic arc.
Succeed at a Cost: If you attempt something difficult, embrace the twisted trade-offs and heavy complications that follow.
Narrative Sovereignty
We prioritize your creative and emotional investment. Under our Golden Rule of Harm, the player whose character is receiving a negative effect always holds the authority over its thematic reality. If your character receives a fight-ending blow, you decide how that affects them and the story.
Protect the Sanctuary
Our community is only as strong as the unique individuals who make it up. We maintain an absolute baseline of patience, safety, and respect both on the game floor and in our digital spaces. We fiercely protect the identities and life experiences of all our participants, ensuring a safe harbor free from real-world hate speech, slurs, or harassment.
