The Situation Tonight: Autumn 1567
Technically, the English Crown holds the town... at the moment. The heavy stone ramparts are manned by local garrison and English soldiers alike, the gates fly the banners of Elizabeth I. The air is thick with tension in this border town.
Tonight everyone gathers at The Siren's Wail for a massive celebration. In the dead of a brutal, freezing autumn, a free feast seems like a miracle but it comes with a heavy dose of paranoia. The entire night is being funded by a visiting Spanish Duke.
On the one hand, Imperial Spain certainly has the gold. On the other hand... why? Why is a high-ranking Catholic noble spending a fortune to feed the locals, nobles and visitors of a strategic, Protestant occupied port?
